12 20 4 & a red jumpsuit

December 4, 2009

Twelve degrees! That was the temperature when I woke up this morning. That’s a tad brisk. Good thing I had a work meeting this morning.  That meant I could run after my meeting – when it was “warmer” out.

Twenty degrees! The actual temperature when I left the house to go running.  Hmmmm. Who’s stupid enough to do that?  The great news was there was no wind. okay – very little wind. It only felt like 19º instead of 20º.

Four miles – the distance I set out to run and did.  It was miserable.  Maybe it was the temperature.  Maybe it was the time of the month.  Maybe it was the fact that I had eaten before I ran.  Whatever the reason.  I am glad to be done with it.  I considered walking the last 1/4 mile – but realized I am doing my running for others this month & IT’S NOT ABOUT ME!!  So. I finished strong – super fast – GREEN DAY was on and pounding out on the drums.  That helped.

Got back to the house and stretched.  My hat and gloves were steaming.  (you know.  like NFL players when they take their helmets off and their big bald heads release all that heat?  no?  never mind.) I was HOT.  I finished stretching and went to take a very hot shower.  The kind that makes you look like you are wearing a bright red jumpsuit when you step out – but it’s just your skin sizzling.  I feel better.

After I got out of the shower I put on my new uniform:

I got my new shirt last week from this Besti – she got it from the water girls when she went to IA for the water weekend – heard all about it – totally jealous but excited for what is going on. Thanks Besti! Thanks Water Girls!  I’ve worn it every night for the entire week – I have it on right now too! (yes. I’ve washed it. twice.) ps – i’ll be there next year to run the thing. i promise.  i’ll even help in anyway you need.  promote. organize. set-up. whatever.

Also notice my new *bling*?  It’s a tad guido.  It’s the middle from my medal (uh?) I got in Florida.   I took it off the ribbon and put it on a chain.  Remember how I said they were so smart for doing that?  I was wrong – kinda…it weighs about a pound and this besti’s 5 year old said, “why you have a quawtuh (quarter) on yo neck?”  “Because it’s my prize kid!” “Because I’m so frickin’ awesome!” “That’s why!” Sorry sweetie.  I didn’t mean to make you cry.

So. My friends. That’s how my run went.  91 miles – 10 so far this month = 81 more to go (tomorrow’s 10 is for Konley & Russ)

Run on Friends!

ps – i don’t make small children cry.
